NFC Verification

Instant chip reading. High-assurance identity. Frictionless user journeys.

High-assurance cryptographic identity verification via NFC

AU10TIX NFC Verification enables high assurance identity verification by securely reading the NFC chip embedded in ePassports and supported government-issued IDs. The solution extracts ICAO standardized chip data, validates chip authenticity, and binds the credential to a live human through biometric verification. The result is fast, fraud-resistant identity assurance with seamless user experience, delivering trust levels that image-based verification alone cannot provide.

Chip-Level Data Extraction

Read trusted identity data directly from encrypted NFC chips

Built-In Anti-
Fraud Logic

Detect cloned or manipulated chips through chip authentication and integrity checks

Biometric
Binding

Bind the chip holder to a live human using biometric verification

High Assurance,
Low Friction

Deliver high-assurance verification in seconds with a guided NFC flow

Government-grade identity assurance powered by NFC, one chip at a time

Secure Chip Access

Authenticated access to the NFC chip using MRZ-derived BAC keys with encrypted communication.

Biometric Binding to a Live Human

Matches the DG2 chip portrait to a live selfie using Passive Facial Liveness (PFL) to confirm the rightful holder.

Cryptographic Chip Validation

Passive Authentication (PA) and Chip Authentication (CA) verify chip integrity and detect tampering or cloning.

Guided, Low Friction User Experience

Built-in UI components guide MRZ scanning, NFC positioning, and extraction progress to reduce user error and drop-off.

ICAO-Standard Data Extraction

Extracts ICAO 9303 compliant data groups (DG1, DG2, DG7, DG14) directly from the issuing authority.

Cross-Platform SDK Delivery

Native iOS and Android SDKs provide real-time feedback across all NFC verification stages.

Answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about NFC Verification

What documents are supported?

The NFC module supports extracting data from the NFC chip in a passport or ID card.

What’s required to read the chip?

The chip is unlocked using a key generated from MRZ information (MRZ scanning is built into the module).

Which data groups are supported today?

Currently supported: DG1, DG2, DG7, and DG14.

Do you recommend pairing NFC with selfie verification?

Yes, AU10TIX recommends using NFC with PFL to get liveness and compare the chip portrait to a selfie.

What about testing coverage?

AU10TIX is expanding NFC validation with external testing partners across regions. Customers are encouraged to test NFC using the AU10TIX demo app with local documents.

How long does NFC verification take?

NFC verification is typically completed within seconds. Timing may vary slightly based on the device and chip quality, but the guided flow is designed to be fast and seamless.

What if the device doesn’t support NFC?

If a user’s device does not support NFC, AU10TIX provides a fallback verification flow. Organizations can continue the onboarding process using image-based document verification, optionally combined with biometric checks, ensuring coverage across all users without blocking access or degrading the user experience.
